Our Vision

A world where conscience guides policy, dignity shapes diplomacy, and freedom becomes the shared language of humanity.

History

A seed planted in Madrid, 2006

In the autumn light of 2006, four people living in Madrid shared a simple but profound conviction: no one can be truly happy while living only for oneself.

That thought became a seed — one that soon grew into a vision inspired by five luminous lives: five beacons of compassion, conscience, and courage whose example continues to guide A4D.

Queen Sofia of Spain

A symbol of grace and generosity, she has devoted her life to service — uplifting the poor, defending education, and nurturing harmony among cultures. Her example reminds us that diplomacy can be born from kindness.

Nicolae Titulescu

The brilliant Romanian diplomat and statesman believed that peace is not achieved by power but by understanding — a diplomacy of respect that spoke the language of dignity and reason.

Dr. Albert Schweitzer

Theologian, philosopher, musician, missionary and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. He reminded the world that conscience cannot be surrendered to an organization or a government.

Dr. Jean Nussbaum

The heart of A4D’s inspiration. A physician in wartime Serbia, he defended a prisoner’s right to live according to his conscience — a lifelong mission for liberty of conscience, carried to the United Nations in San Francisco.

Eleanor Roosevelt

With Nussbaum she strengthened the foundation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. She understood that liberty must always be paired with responsibility and empathy.

One shared belief

Peace begins not in institutions, but in the hearts and minds of people — when conscience, respect, and compassion guide every action.

Purpose

Defending what is most sacred in the human being

A4D exists to defend dignity, freedom of conscience, and the right to live by one’s deepest convictions.

We promote a world where diplomacy becomes dialogue, where faith becomes respect, and where education becomes empowerment.

Mission objectives

  • Build bridges between cultures, nations, and beliefs.
  • Promote and defend human rights and religious liberty.
  • Advance diplomatic cooperation and preventive diplomacy through respectful, values-based dialogue.
  • Inspire education, culture, and moral development.
  • Uphold the integrity of life, promoting holistic well-being and resistance to hatred, abuse, or discrimination.

“The pain of one must awaken the conscience of all.”

This is not only our principle — it is our purpose.
